Coasters, coasters, coasters!

Coasters, coasters, coasters!

When I first decided to make and sell coasters with the laser cutter, I thought a few, simple designs, would be enough until I could start making bigger things.

I had some ideas for the first 2 sets. A Pacman set and Mario. One was one of my favourite games and the other had designs so iconic, yet simple, that I thought they would look striking as small, standalone 'artworks'.

Once I actually started production however and learnt how to work with the materials and what I could do with the laser, ideas started to flood in.

I found that old fashioned woodcuts and engravings worked really nicely, which inspired the natural history sets. And then the versatility of Acrylic, which has led to the upcoming Pacman Icon set. That paint in various techniques could dramatically change the look and feel of the work and that masking tape is both the most useful and annoying thing in the world!

I've got ideas for more vintage engraving sets, more retro games and some comic book antiheroes, which are prepped and ready to go live any day now. In fact, the biggest problem I have now is finding the time to get all the ideas out of my head and onto little 10*10cm squares of material. And if I'm honest, that's quite a nice problem to have.
